Theme night housing migrant workers

That migrant workers are incredibly needed in the Dutch economy became clear at the Migrant Housing theme evening organized by a municipality in the Dune and Bollenstreek. Flexible Human Services and some of its clients spoke. They explained why migrant workers are so indispensable in their companies as well, and why it is therefore necessary to think about solutions for housing these temporary workers.

Not in my backyard

With migrant labor housing, the Not-In-My-Backyard principle often applies: people don't want to be inconvenienced by migrant labor housing, but do reap - often without knowing it themselves - the benefits of their arrival. After all, it is migrant workers who pack the scraped carrots we cook with in the evening, who plant the hyacinth bulbs we love in the spring, and who pack the packages, when we store online.

Invisible

It is not clear to consumers that these operations are performed by human hands, and whose hands they are. That is why it is so good to pay more attention to the role of the migrant worker. This way, those hands get a face, and it becomes clear that those who pack carrots, plant hyacinths and send packages should also have somewhere to live!
